22 February – In Uganda, Kampala — A MAN has been arrested after he and nine others on the run ate a warthog that strayed from the Uganda Wildlife Education Centre in Entebbe.

24 February – In Uganda, Kampala — A fisherman was last week mauled by a crocodile at Musubi Beach on Lake Victoria. Muhamad Mugwere was fishing on the fateful night when the crocodile attacked him. Mugwere’s colleagues said he was attacked when he went into the water to retrieve a net that was stuck on a rock.
“The beast carried him away as we helplessly cried for help,” said Moses Wabwire, one of his friends.

26 February – In Uganda, Mayuge — A primary seven pupil in Mayuge, who decided to try out his fishing skills during lunch time on Monday, suffered the misfortune of being grabbed and eaten by a crocodile.

Nairobi, Kenya – The population of the African elephant has dropped from about 1.3 million in 1979 to 470 today. Various reasons have been given for the big drop in the elephant population, with the primary cause being poaching for ivory. Still, poaching goes on in Africa due to the high demand for ivory and its products in Asia. An estimated 38,000 elephants were killed annually in Africa by poachers.
